Tips for Shopping Online With a Credit Card
When shopping online with a credit card, it is important to protect your account information in order to keep your credit safe. In order to do so, there are several steps a person can take.
The first step toward protecting your credit card information is to make sure you are shopping on a website with a secure connection. You should see a lock symbol within your browser window to indicate the connection is secure. These symbols, however, can be recreated by savvy scam artists. Therefore, you should also check the website address, which should begin with https rather than just http. The “s” represents “secure.”
You should also shop with only merchants you know to be safe. Shopping online at “Bill and Fred’s Radio World” may not be a good idea, unless you know someone who has highly recommended their store. Unless you are 100% positive the store is legitimate, it is best to avoid shopping at one you are unfamiliar with.
After completing your transaction, be sure to also double check your statement at the end of the month. Make sure the proper amount of money was charged to your account and take note of any suspicious activity. If you do notice something that is wrong, contact your credit card company immediately.
