Travel Rewards With Your Credit CardRewards cards and cash back cards are very popular in the market today. In fact you also have choices between loyalty points, discount cards, and travel rewards cards. For those who love to travel or must travel with their jobs there are plenty of cards out there with the right rewards for you. They can be very useful. Before you choose a travel rewards or air miles cards there are couple of things you should consider. First of all you need to understand the type of travel and travel services that the cards will provide as they differ. If you tend to travel a great deal then air miles can be more effective than other cards. The air miles cards tend to allow you to earn miles for every pound that you spend on the card. You may find that the number of points earned is a little low considering how many pounds you spend at one time, but the balance will add up and there are often bonus offers to go with these points. The number of points you earn are going to depend on the air miles credit card you choose. Some air miles credit cards offer a point per pound, where others offer 1.5 points or miles per pound spent. In some cases you will find restrictions on the places you want or need to travel. The points are redeemed for a flight. It is best to read the fine print to understand any restrictions on the travel you would like to complete. If you do not like to travel by air, but with other methods then the travel rewards cards will be better for. For example if you like to travel around the UK by car, bus, or train there are rewards based cards that offer discounts for tickets, gas, and other options. You usually don’t earn air miles with these cards, but in some cases they can be redeemed towards a flight. Most often the points are redeemed towards hotel stays, car hire, ground transport, package holidays, and other things. You can receive a point per pound or more depending on the card you apply for. Usually the number of points you earn per pound that can be spend on travel is going to be extremely low for air miles cards. Since they are made for air miles more than other travel it can be difficult to get a hotel discount or other options. If you have both cards you are sure to get the best of both, but it is better to compare the range of cards and find just one that fits your needs the best. If you are going to use air miles more than a card offering air miles at a higher point system will probably be the best for you. You should also remember that with any rewards based credit card you will not earn anything for cash withdrawals. In other words you need to make a purchase with the card to have it work in your favour. Back To Financial News April 2008 |
