CCJ Mortgages

CCJ is an acronym for a County Court Judgment, which is issued by the court in a situation where you have failed to make your credit payments. You will receive a detail that will specify the amount that you owe and the payment schedule. An appeal process can be followed with the filing of an admission form stating the amount you need to pay. Once this is done, the court sets a date for its hearing.

A CCJ can be detrimental to your credit rating. These days most creditors use the CCJ to turn their unsecured debt into a secured one. If you ignore a CCJ then in all probability, your property will face charges but if you pay the amount due, then the CCJ will be removed from your property. CCJ can cause a negative impact because if you fail to pay the amount then the CCJ will show on your credit report for at least 6 years making it difficult to get a new mortgage or even renew the existing. You will get around 30 days to make the payment to avoid it from showing up on your credit reports. Once you have paid the amount due, you will receive a certificate of satisfaction, which will inform your creditors that you have paid the debt.

There are times when you may receive a CCJ by mistake and if that happens then you need to immediately contact the County Court using your case number as your reference. You will have to fill a defense form, which is a part of the court response pack. Once the error has been declared legitimate, you will receive a certificate of Cancellation.

CCJ payments are always made to the creditor or the debt collection agency. If you feel that you will not be able to make the necessary payment then you can always order the Application to vary an order form from the court.
