Cutting Up Your Old Credit Cards

26/06/08 8:37 AM

When you get rid of out of date cards or cards you no longer want it is always essential that you cut them up.

In addition to this you should also make sure that you cut through the chip. This will ensure that the chip is rendered useless. Otherwise hi-tech criminals can get sensitive information from the chip which they could possibly use to rip you off.

Another good tip is to cut through the account number it’s self. Then discard one part of the card in one bin and another part of the card in another bin. This will make it less likely for any bin divers who sell details onto criminals, can get there hands on both halves of your credit card or debit card and therefore have your credit card number.

These precautions are belt and braces but we at UK Financial Options believe it is best to be save than sorry.
