Secured Credit Cards

Nov. 25th 2007

A secured credit card is one that is tenable by a certain deposit account, which is possessed by the cardholder. Characteristically, they have to deposit at least one hundred percent of the total credit wanted. Sometimes, the issuers of the credit card will offer inducements to their customers, even ones that are on their card portfolios. When it comes to something like this, the required deposit might be much less than the credit limit. It can even be as low as ten percent of the credit limit. This kind of deposit will be kept in a savings account where no one can have access to it.

Someone that owns a secured credit card is still liable to make their standard payments monthly, like one would with any other credit card, but if they fail to pay what is required; the company that issued the card has the right to recover the purchases’ cost that was paid to the merchant. This money will be taken out of the deposit in the special savings account. The great thing about having one of these cards is that if you have little or no credit history, you can change that quickly as most of the companies that deal with secured credit cards report to all the big credit bureaus and this could help you earn a good credit history, if you have kept it good that is.

Prepaid Credit Cards

Nov. 24th 2007

Many will say that a prepaid credit card is not really a credit card because the card issuer offers no credit at all. The card has to be loaded with money before it can be used; this is normally done by a parent or guardian as many kids use this card. Whatever amount has been loaded onto the card may be used just about anywhere, including online. Some companies might also use a prepaid credit card to pay their employees, but this is not done very often. Even though it is not an actual credit card, it holds some of the most popular credit card brand names like MasterCard or Visa, which is why many children/teenagers like to use it.

The great thing about prepaid credit cards is that, unlike secured credit cards and others, you do not get charged any interest. Also, you do not need a lot of money to open the account, like many other credit cards require of you. However, with a prepaid credit card, you are sometimes required to pay a monthly fee; therefore you have to use the card continuously and cannot only use it once. But this is not all the time; there are some prepaid credit cards that require no monthly fee.

More On Choosing a Credit Card

Nov. 23rd 2007

There are so many different credit cards available for one to choose from, how do you know which is right for you? Well, only you can decide that. There are a few things you need to take into consideration when deciding this and it might not be easy, but it’s what you have to do if you want to make the right decision and not end up with a lot of debt. What you have to ask yourself is, how you are going to use the credit card and what exactly are you going to use it for?

• If you think that you are going to pay the monthly balance in full every single month and you are not interested in air miles and other features that many credit card issuers offer, than you might want to go for a card that doesn’t ask for an annual fee and gives you a longer period of time to pay.
• If you decide that you are going to carry a balance from one month to the next, you might want to go for something more along the lines of a card that offers a lower interest rate or APR (annual percentage rate.)
• If you are going to be using your card for cash advances, the card you would want will be one that offers lower cash advance fees as well as lower fees on APR.

Be wise when deciding on a credit card, don’t just take the first one you are offered!
